2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara Dealer-Installed Keyless Entry System

We received an inquiry from a reader asking about keyless entry on the 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Here is our response:

The 2001 Grand Vitara was not equipped with a factory keyless entry system. Suzuki dealers did offer a dealer-installed system for that vehicle made by Autopage that had a Suzuki brand on the keyfob case.

If your vehicle has a Suzuki dealer-installed system or most any other aftermarket alarm system installed and you need a new remote, then Remotes Unlimited can probably help you. See below. However, if your vehicle has no system installed on it at this point, Remotes Unlimited will not be able to help because we sell only the replacement remote transmitters. (Installing a keyless entry system is not always a simple installation process, so, if your vehicle does not already have a system, we would recommend that you have one installed at an aftermarket alarm shop. The leading aftermarket alarm system companies are Audiovox – with the Prestige and Pursuit brands – and DEI – with brands such as Avital, Clifford, Python and Viper.)

If a Suzuki dealer-installed system has been on the vehicle dating back to 2001, it most likely is the Suzuki-branded system made by Autopage. The remote for that system is no longer made; however, Remotes Unlimited offers a very similar-looking Autopage remote that is interchangeable with the Suzuki-branded remote. Here is the link for our website page that shows the Suzuki dealer-installed part and the available replacement:

If you have an original remote that looks like the keyfob pictured on the linked webpage and it has FCC ID B23AT54 on the back, you can order the Autopage part shown (RUI part # 153-1153). It will come with do-it-yourself programming instructions. If you encounter any problem when programming your system to accept the new remote, you can call us for free technical support.

If you have system on the vehicle but the original remote looks different than the part pictured, you may have a different alarm system in your vehicle. (Sometimes, Suzuki dealers install aftermarket alarm systems other than the Suzuki branded system.) In this case, I suggest you call and speak with one of our call center representatives who can help determine exactly what type of system is in your vehicle. Our call center is open Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm Central time. The toll-free number is 877-719-1900.

My 2001 suzuki vitara won’t start no dash lights come on car does crank but won’t start lost key had a new key cut now won’t start

      Hi John,
Because it cranks, but won’t start, it could be an immobilizer. Keys often come with a transponder that needs to be read by the ignition cylinder in order to start. You will have to contact a Suzuki dealership to see if your 2001 Vitara has a chipped key. If it does, then the key needs to be programmed.
If it is not an immobilizer/chipped key, you may have to consider the battery or alternator as the problem. Good luck.

Hello, thanks for contacting us. Your key most likely has a chip inside the key that will need to be programmed. Please note that this is different from the remote portion which needs to be programmed separately from the key. This is a security feature on some cars. You will need to get the key itself programmed by either a locksmith or dealer. Locksmiths tend to be cheaper. Unfortunately we don’t offer programming for the key itself.
