About Replacement Keyless Entry Remote Keyfobs for Vehicles with Seat Memory

Seat memory systems have not exactly exploded over the past decade. Apart from high-end vehicle makes, about the only nameplates that use seat memory are Acura and GM’s Cadillac models and Corvette.

Factory keyless entry is standard equipment on nearly all vehicles that have seat memory installed. Generally, keyless entry remotes for seat memory vehicles have a fob number printed or embossed on the back of the remote. This seat memory fob number is to help drivers know which is the keyfob that will automatically put adjust the seat and mirror positions for their setting. With the exception of Cadillac, these keyfob numbers are purely cosmetic. The remotes are identical in every other respect. The control module on the vehicle does not know which fob number is on the back of the remote case, it only knows the order in which the fobs are programmed. What this means is that, for most seat memory vehicles, it does not matter at all whether you buy a replacement car remote with fob number 1, fob number 2 or no fob number on the back.
