Buying a Car Remote with Different Buttons Than Your Original Keyfob

A customer recently called and said he wanted a replacement keyfob with remote start for his 2009 Chevrolet Impala. This application used keyfobs with FCC ID OUC60270. Our CSR asked if his original keyfob had a remote start button. He said no. But, he added, a buddy told him that all he had to do was buy the remote start keyfob and he would be able to turn his engine on and off remotely.

Well, sorry my friend, but that is not the case. Generally speaking, if a factory keyless entry system came with a remote control that did not have a certain button on it, you will not be able to “add” that feature just by buying a different remote. This is almost always the case for remote start. Likewise, with a power assisted liftgate on SUVs or power sliding doors on a van. If your vehicle came with a remote that did not operate these features, chances are your vehicle does not have them.
