Cadillac Remotes with FCC ID ABO1602T

Yesterday’s post generated several questions about other GM remotes with FCC ID ABOxxxxx, including one about the Cadillac 4-button remotes that have the FCC ID ABO1602T.

This is an interesting pair of remotes used on some Cadillac models in the late 90s. The pair are seat memory keyfobs. Both of the remotes have lock, unlock, trunk and (locking) gas cap release buttons. This is interesting in itself because very few remotes have a gas cap release button. (There is another set of Cadillac keyfobs that does, but not many others.)

On the back of the remotes are case markings to distinguish Fob 1 from Fob 2. For most seat memory keyfobs, it does not matter what fob number is on the back of the case. In those cases, the electronic transmission characteristics of the remotes are identical and the case marking is purely to help users tell one keyfob from another. However, in the case of the ABO1602T remotes, the system is set up to distinguish between Fob 1 and Fob 2 and it will not let you program two remotes with the same Fob number on the same vehicle. So, be sure that if you have a working Fob 2 and you want to add a second remote, you buy Fob 1, and vice versa.

If you are buying a replacement remote for a Cadillac car that used ABO1602T remotes, you also have to pay attention to the programming situation. If you own a 1997-1999 Catera, programming your system to accept a replacement remote requires a scan tool, but if you own a 1996-1997 Cadillac DeVille, Eldorado or SeVille, the system in your vehicle is user programmable to add a new keyfob.
