Did You Know? . . . Many Older Aftermarket Alarm and Keyless Entry Remote Keyfobs Can Be Cloned

I think it is fair to say that most people do not know what the technology is that allows their car alarm or keyless entry remote to unlock their car and perform other functions. Car remotes are small low-power transmitters. Most of them transmit a radio frequency signal between 300mHz and 434mHz.

Many older remotes transmit a fixed signal, meaning that each time you push a button on the remote, the same signal is being transmitted from the remote keyfob to the control module inside the vehicle. If you have one of these older remotes, and it works, then your remote can be cloned. This may be important to you because many older fixed code transmitters are no longer made. More than a dozen car alarm manufacturers have left the business and their are hundredss of thousands of systems installed in vehicles still on the road with no replacement remote transmitter available.

So, if you have an older system, you may want to check and see if it operates via a fixed code and, if so, get a copy made now while your existing remote still works.
