Global Considerations of Replacing Keyless Entry and Aftermarket Alarm System Remotes

Interestingly, Remotes Unlimited receives a sizable proportion of our website and blog comments from customers outside North America. Many of these inquiries ask if we can replace a remote control for a specific vehicle factory keyless entry system or an aftermarket alarm key fob with a certain FCC ID. Sometimes, we are able to help the customer and sometimes we cannot.

Generally, factory keyless entry systems have characteristics that are market specific. For instance, in North America, most factory keyless entry remotes operate at a frequency of 315 mHz, whereas most vehicles sold into Asian markets have systems that transmit at 433 mHz. Remotes Unlimited does not stock many of the remotes used outside of North America, so we may not be able to help you. On the other hand, aftermarket alarm system remotes are more likely to be used across geographic markets, so it is a little more common for the same key fob to be used in Europe or Asia as is used in North America.

If you search our website and are not able to find a reference for the vehicle, FCC ID, manufacturer part number or aftermarket alarm system model that matches your application, you should feel free to contact Remotes Unlimited and we will do our best to assist you.
