Programming Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Replacement Remote Key Fobs with FCC ID CWTWB1U343

Ford installed factory keyless entry systems that used a 4-button remote key fob with FCC ID CWTWB1U343 on some Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles beginning in 1998 and continuing through 2005. This is one of the remotes discussed in my last blog post (see link here). A reader of that post asked about programming for the factory keyless entry systems involved.

Often, a part always has the same programming situation, regardless of what vehicle the system is on. The 4-button Ford keyfob with FCC ID CWTWB1U343 is an exception to this generalization. Systems in the Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Continental, Lincoln Mark VIII, and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles that used this remote are nearly all user programmable. The exceptions are the 1998 Crown Victoria and 1998 Grand Marquis, which require dealership programming with a scan tool.
