Programming of New Ford Keyhead-Style Keyless Entry Remotes and Keys

Ford’s newest generation of keyhead-style keyless entry remotes and keys are user programmable under certain circumstances. By “newest generation”, we mean those with a high-security, laser-cut key blade. These remote-key combination parts started appearing on some 2011 models and are now used on many Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

For these keyhead remotes, both the transmitter functions and the key itself can be programmed to work with a vehicle if one already has two working keys. If one does not have two working keys to use during the on-board programming procedure, a new part will have to be taken to a Ford dealership for programming with a scan tool.
