Replacement Factory Keyless Entry Remote Keyfob for 2000-2004 Toyota Avalon

We received an inquiry from John, who wanted to know what the correct replacement remote is for his 2001 Toyota Avalon equipped with a factory keyless entry system. The correct replacement part is a 4-button remote keyfob — Toyota part number 89742-AC050 or 89742-AC051. This remote had different FCC ID numbers at different times. The two FCC ID numbers that appear on the part are HYQ12BAN and HYQ12BBX. These remotes were used on Toyota Avalon from 2000 through 2004.

See 2000-2004 Avalon remote at this link.

This keyless entry system is user programmable.

2000 Toyota Avalon vehicles that were equipped with factory keyless entry use Remotes Unlimited part 665-1665. See the part at this link. An interchangeable part, CPR-8914 (which has a different rear button icon), is available at all Pep Boys stores and will soon be available in Advance Auto stores. Some Toyota vehicles of this era did not have factory systems installed. Instead, they may have a port-installed or dealer-installed system. The best way to know which system is on your vehicle is to look at the FCC ID on the back of the remote. If it starts with “HYQ” then your vehicle has a factory system.

My used 2000 avalon didn’t come with a remote. At night when the car is locked, the alarm light light flashes indicating to me the system is armed. So I have no remote to get the model number to get a replacement remote. Oh what shall I do and not have to spend top dollar for a remote at the dealership?

Most, but not all, 2000 Toyota Avalon vehicles were equipped with factory keyless entry. The factory keyless entry remote transmitter is Remotes Unlimited part 665-1665. You can see this part at the following link:

      http://www.remotesunlimited.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=708

There is a compatible remote sold in all Advance Auto and Pep Boys stores with the part number CPR-8914. This part has a window roll-down button icon on the third button instead of a trunk icon, but the part is identical otherwise.

There is also a possibility your vehicle has a Toyota port-installed or dealer-installed system. If you call a Toyota dealer and give them the VIN of your Avalon, they should be able to tell you if the vehicle has a factory system or not.
