Replacing Aftermarket Alarm System Remote Transmitters

A blog reader asked us if he needed to have an original remote in order to buy a replacement remote and program the new one. The answer is no. All that is needed to program an aftermarket alarm system is a working key for the vehicle and a working control system module in the vehicle, complete with its valet (over-ride) button or switch. It also helps to have a siren hooked up to the alarm system, because most programming methods use audible chirps to signal what is going on during the programming process. Having a working original remote is not necessary.
