Replacing Remotes for an Old Aftermarket Alarm System

Remotes Unlimited received an inquiry asking if we could replace a remote with FCC ID 16zcmxt502. We receive many inquiries like this.

Sometimes, the first challenge for us is to determine what aftermarket alarm system the customer has. In this inquiry, we knew right away that the FCC ID provided by the customer was wrong because all FCC IDs start with a letter, not a number. So, we knew right away that the number was something like “I6ZCM . . .”

The second challenge for customers and Remotes Unlimited is that so many aftermarket alarm companies have gone out of business. We learn almost every week that a replacement remote for some aftermarket alarm system or another is no longer manufactured. When that happens, we sometimes can still help the customer.

Here was our response to the customer who made the inquiry:

Thank you for contacting Remotes Unlimited. Sorry it has taken me this long to respond.

I am not sure we will be able to help you. We do not have a reference for the FCC ID you listed in your inquiry. We do have reference for three remotes that have similar FCC IDs — I6ZCMXT36, I6ZCMXR502 and I6ZCMXT503 — all of which were manufactured in Taiwan by Cenmax Group USA. At least one of these was marketed under the brand name Real Access.

Because these remotes are all quite old (having FCC registration dates between the early 1990s and 2001), it may be difficult to find a replacement. Many aftermarket alarm companies have gone out of business with the rise of factory keyless entry systems as standard equipment on new vehicles. The only reference we find for Cenmax today is to a Turkish company.

The only way we might be able to assist you is if you have a remote from the system that still transmits some signal. If so, and if your system transmits a fixed code, we might be able to clone the signal on one of our ReMoto transmitters. In order to try to do this, we would need you to send in your original remote.

The link below shows the Real Access remote with FCC ID I6ZCMXT36 and the ReMoto transmitter that we sell as a replacement for it.
