Split Years on Factory Keyless Entry Systems

As with any other automotive component, vehicle manufacturers sometimes change the factory keyless entry system used on a vehicle midway through a model year. If you are buying a car remote control, you need to be aware of this possibility. When there is a system changeover in the middle of a model year, the remote used with the first system will not work for the second system . . . and vice versa. In general, to buy the correct part, you will need some information in addition to the make, model and year of your vehicle. You may need to know the production date of your vehicle. A sure way to buy the correct replacement keyfob is to use the FCC ID or manufacturer’s part number from your original remote when shopping for the new one.
