Did You Know . . . That Many Keyless Entry Remote Key Fobs Have Multiple OE Manufacturer Part Numbers?

One might think that a car or truck manufacturer would only need one part number to identify a specific keyless entry remote. Not so. They need many, it seems, though exactly why is not clear to anyone but themselves.

In the case of GM, we presume it is because they have multiple design teams for their various vehicle makes. So, it may be no surprise that the same remote transmitter can have different part numbers for a Chevy versus a Cadillac. Of course, it should also come as no surprise that Cadillac dealers often charge more for the very same part. An example of a GM part that has numerous OE manufacturer part numbers is Remotes Unlimited replacement remote 902-1902, which is a 5-button keyfob with FCC ID OUC60270 that was used on GM SUVs such as Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. The OE part numbers used on this 5-button remote keyfob include 15913415, 20952477, 25839476 and at least two others. See part 902-1902 at this link. Incidentally, this remote is stocked in Pep Boys stores as CPR-8902, where it is priced more than $60.00 below the GM dealer list price.

The all-time winner for OE part numbers is the popular 3-button Ford remote, Remotes Unlimited part 343-1343. This remote keyfob was used on a variety of Ford vehicles, including all trucks from 1998-2010 and later. It has ten OE part numbers that we know of, including F8DB-15K601-AA, 8L3Z-15K601-AB, 2L3Z-15K601-AB and many others. This remote was used on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, and also on Mazda trucks. It even has multiple FCC IDs, including GQ43VT11T, CWTWB1U212, CWTWB1U322, CWTWB1U331 and CWTWB1U345. See this remote at this link. This remote is also available through Pep Boys stores and also through Advance Auto stores, where it is part CPR-8343.
