Other Cases of Keyless Entry Remote Waffling

A reader of yesterday’s blog (see link here) asked two good questions.

Is this an isolated case of GM flailing around with respect to keyless entry remote keyfob features? The answer is no. There are several cases when remote button features were available one year and not available the next . . . what we call “backtracking”. For GM, this is particularly true with respect to rear functions on SUVs.

The reader’s second question asked if other vehicle manufacturers do the same thing. Yes, GM is not the only offender. Ford did the same with respect to seat memory on some of its vehicles in the late 1990s. And there are other examples.

The lesson is . . . when it comes to keyless entry systems and remotes, never assume that products and features follow a logical development path.
