Programming Omega (and other) Aftermarket Alarm Systems

A customer wrote us asking if it is possible to program a replacement remote for an Omega remote start system that does not have a siren or a valet switch. The answer is a definite maybe, whether the Omega system is an aftermarket alarm or remote start system. Here is the gist of our answer:

The system must have some kind of control button or valet switch for programming a new remote. It would be highly unusual (and unprofessional) for the installers to have not included a control switch of some sort, but anything is possible. You may want to try to locate it before ordering a replacement remote. It looks like a Rolo candy at the end of a wire. The wire connects it to the control module for the system. The control module is a little black box (roughly 1″x3″x4″). It should have labeling on it that identifies the system name and model number. Most installers place the control module under the dashboard on the driver’s side.

It is possible to program Omega systems without a siren. The siren makes it much easier because it gives feedback in the form of audible “chirps” during the programming process. Without, one has to follow the programming instructions very carefully and you don’t really know until the end whether or not you have gotten it right. Without a siren, it is important to know the system name and model number because different Omega systems use different programming processes. Our phone tech support personnel are very skilled at getting systems programmed under a variety of conditions. So, we can probably help you get the system programmed without a siren, but it may take a fair bit of additional time and trouble.
