Replacement Factory Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob for 2002 GMC Sierra Pickup Truck

A reader wrote to ask what the correct replacement remote transmitter is for a 2002 GMC Sierra Pickup. The original remote used on 2002 GMC Sierras equipped with factory keyless entry systems was a 3-button keyfob with FCC ID KOBLEAR1XT and GM part number 15042968. Pep Boys stocks a 4-button replacement remote that will work in place of the original 3-button remote. The part number to look for in Pep Boys stores is CPR-8512. Of course, the extra trunk button will have no function on a GMC Sierra. The retail price at Pep Boys is under $60, well below the dealership retail price for the original 3-button remote.
