1994 Toyota Land Cruiser Keyless Entry Remote

A reader asked about a replacement factory remote for his 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser. In that era, Toyota did not offer factory keyless entry systems even as optional equipment on any Land Cruiser model. In fact, there was no factory keyless entry remote on a Land Cruiser until the 1998 model year when Toyota equipped Land Cruisers with a keyhead style transmitter. Prior to 1998, a Toyota-approved system was installed on many vehicles at the port of entry or by the dealership. The original remote for Toyota dealer-installed systems in 1994 had FCC ID BAB237131-022 on the back of the case. It was a 2-button black keyfob with one button controlling the lock/unlock functions and the other controlling a trunk release or auxiliary function. The original remote has since been replaced by a newer remote with FCC ID BAB237131-056 on the case.

See Toyota remote with FCC ID BAB237131-022 at this link.

All of Toyota’s dealer-installed and port-installed systems are user programmable, so customers can add a remote without having to go to the dealership for assistance.

Does anyone know the programming method for the 1994 Land Cruiser (added) fob?

      Edward:
Thanks for contacting Remotes Unlimited. In that era, 1994, Toyota vehicles were not equipped with factory keyless entry systems. Instead, keyless entry/alarm systems were commonly added at the port of entry or by a dealership. Because the systems were added after the vehicle left the factory, we cannot be sure which system is on your 1994 Land Cruiser. The best was to be certain is to match the FCC ID and button configuration on a remote that has worked with your vehicle.

The most likely alarm system at that time used a 2-button remote that is Remotes Unlimited part 162-1162. See this remote at this link. As you will see in the link, there is also a less expensive aftermarket replacement remote for this application.

All Toyota port-installed and dealer-installed keyless entry systems are user programmable. Remotes Unlimited provides programming instructions and free phone tech support with purchased parts. If you just want the programming instructions, we sell those separately. You can purchase programming instructions by calling us toll free at 877-719-1900.
