2014 Acura RLX Proximity (Smart Key) Remote Transmitter

If Remotes Unlimited were to publish a “Ridiculist”, the newest entry on it would be Acura. The 2014 Acura RLX uses proximity remote transmitters that have a dealer list price of $473.97. We are having trouble believing that a keyfob could ever cost this much. This vehicle has seat memory, so there are actually two keyfobs for the vehicle, both sold at this price.

These proximity remotes or “Smart Keys” are made by Panasonic. They have FCC ID ACJ932HK1210A and Acura part numbers 72147-TY2-A01 (fob 1) and 72147-TY2-A11 (fob 2). The 4-button remotes have lock, unlock, trunk and panic functions (like most sedan remotes) and, visually, the transmitters do not differ greatly from the 2014 MDX proximity remotes that have a dealer list price of $92.90. (See 2014 MDX remote here.)

If anyone can explain to us why the RLX remotes cost what they do, we would love to hear it.
