Replacing a 2013 Chevy Cruze Switchblade Remote Transmitter

In the universe of replacement remotes, there are many special situations. Some of these make it a little more challenging to be sure you are buying the correct replacement car remote or whether or not you will be able to program it yourself.

A recent question was raised about the new-style switchblade remote transmitter used on many GM vehicles, including the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze. A couple of different remotes were used on this application, with the difference depending on whether or not the vehicle was equipped with remote start. However, in addition to being more than one part for this application, there are also limited circumstances in which a new remote can be programmed by the user. Some Chevy Cruzes were equipped with a passive unlocking system. This system allows you to unlock the vehicle without pressing a button on the remote if the transmitter is within 1 meter of the vehicle. Vehicles that have this system can be programmed by the user to accept a new remote. But the complexity does not end there. There are two different programming processes depending on whether or not you have a recognized transmitter.

This is just one of many examples of vehicle applications and parts where a variety of circumstances may determine the part you need or the programming process that is required. So, when you are buying a replacement remote, be sure you are purchasing from a reputable source that is likely to have the knowledge needed about all of these different circumstances.
