Hyundai Factory Keyless Entry Remotes and Dealer-Installed Alarm System Keyfobs

A reader contacted Remotes Unlimited asking for a replacement remote for a 2000 Hyundai vehicle. At that time, many Hyundai vehicles offered factory keyless entry systems only as an option package. So, many Hyundai cars and SUVs from that era have a dealer-installed alarm system or an aftermarket alarm system installed on the vehicle instead of a factory system. If you are buying a replacement remote for your Hyundai from that period, the first thing to determine is which type of system is installed in the car or SUV.

The easiest way to tell which type of system you have is from information on your original keyfob. Some people think a logo is the best way to tell, but it isn’t. Hyundai did allow its logos to be put on aftermarket systems that were installed by its dealers. The best way to tell which type of system you have and to find the correct replacement remote is by the FCC ID.

FCC IDs beginning with NYO, OSL, PIN, PLN, SY5 or TQ8 indicate a remote for a Hyundai factory keyless entry system. The most common types of Hyundai dealer-installed systems have keyfobs with FCC ID ELV (Audiovox), EZS (DEI) or GOH (Code Alarm). An FCC ID starting with any other 3 characters is almost certainly an aftermarket alarm system.

If you know the FCC ID of your original remote, you can always check it on the Remotes Unlimited search engine.
