More on Replacement GM Keyless Entry Remotes with FCC ID KOBUT1BT

Following up on yesterday’s post (link here), a reader correctly pointed out that his 4-button keyfob with FCC ID KOBUT1BT does not have a gas cap button icon or a seat memory fob # on it. Yes, there are multiple remote transmitters used with GM vehicles that have FCC ID KOBUT1BT but a variety of different button configurations. More importantly, these keyfobs are not all interchangeable, even though they have the same FCC ID. This is true of the two 4-button KOBUT1BT remotes with no seat memory number on them.

RUI part 522-1522 has a trunk button icon on the rear function button. It was used on a variety of Buick, Chevy, Oldsmobile and Pontiac sedans from 1996 through 2000 and, in the case of the Olds Aurora, into the 2001 model year. Many of these models had seat memory as an option package and used RUI part 522-1522 on vehicles that were not equipped with that option.

RUI part 516-1516 has a “Rear 2X” button icon on the rear function button. It was used on Chevy Astro vans in 2000 and into the 2001 model year. It was also used on many Chevy, GMC and Oldsmobile SUVs from 1998 through 2000 and into the 2001 model year.

If you are buying a replacement car or SUV remote that might include a KOBUT1BT application, you have to be cautious for two reasons. One is that not all KOBUT1BT remotes are interchangeable. The second is that systems using the KOBUT1BT remote were used during “split years”, meaning that the KOBUT1BT system was used on some vehicles for part of a model year and another system that uses different keyfobs was installed on other vehicles during the same model year. Also, please note that some applications that use KOBUT1BT remotes are user programmable and others are not.
