Using Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Numbers to Specify Aftermarket Alarm System Remote Controls

For many older aftermarket alarm system remote controls, it may be necessary to use the printed circuit board number (PCB#) to specify the correct replacement remote control. For example, original remotes with FCC IDs ELV777K, ELV789F, ELVAL777A, EZSDEI467, EZSDEI493C, H5LAL777A and H5LAL789D all correspond to original remotes that could have had any of several different PCBs inside. To be sure you are buying the correct replacement remote control for one of these remotes, the replacement keyfob must match the PCB# on the original remote.

For example, a customer of ours recently needed to replace an original remote control with FCC ID EZSDEI467 and PCB# DT7C. Remotes Unlimited references half a dozen different numbers that appeared on the PCBs inside remotes with FCC ID EZSDEI467 on the case. The customer’s 2-button keyfob has been discontinued for quite a while now. DEI replaced that keyfob with a 2-button remote control that had FCC ID EZSDEI491, which has also been discontinued. To our knowledge, the only replacement for the customer’s original remote that is still available is a 4-button DEI keyfob bearing the FCC ID EZSDEI485.

In this particular case (and many others), the replacement keyfob bears no visual resemblance to the original remote. Situations like this are not unusual when one has an older aftermarket alarm remote control and needs a replacement.

I have a ’95 Pontiac Firebird withAuto-Mate Remote DES 347.190 FCC ID EZSDEI491. Needs repair/replace and I’m having a problem programming extra remote. Will the 4 button (now 2 button) FCC ID EZSDEI485 Remote work? Cost for this? Any other ideas?

Yes, the 4-button DEI remote with FCC EZSDEI485 (RUI part 299-1299) will work as a replacement for the 2-button DEI/Automate remote with FCC ID EZSDEI491. If you are having trouble programming a replacement part, it is important to figure out if the problem is with the control module or other alarm system component in the vehicle or if it is with the remote transmitter.
