View CartFrom 1996 through 2001 Acura RL vehicles came with a factory keyless entry system that used a 4-button remote control. The FCC ID on the back of the keyfob is CWT72147KA. This remote control has had two part numbers during its lifetime — 72147-SZ3-A01 and 72147-SZ3-A02.

For some reason, this remote is much more expensive than most other keyfobs from Honda Corporation. My guess is that Honda owed Alps Electronics (the FCC Registrant) for something and loaded the cost into this part. Having a $179.88 list price on a part that probably costs no more than a couple of bucks to manufacture is a little excessive. Unfortunately, that is the MO for vehicle manufacturers . . . to get you to buy a vehicle and then stick it to you with replacement parts and service costs. This is particularly true for the increasing number of electronic parts, because those are easier to withhold from the aftermarket. If you care about this at all, let your congressional representatives know that you are in favor of “Right to Repair” legislation. Link to AAIA Right to Repair
If you are buying a car remote and you search for this Acura keyfob by FCC ID, be a little bit careful because there is a different Honda remote with FCC ID CWT72147KA3.
