Replacement Factory Keyless Entry Remote Keyfob for 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Nissan went a little crazy with keyless entry remote keyfobs around 1999-2002. Call it millenium fever. They used systems with two FCC IDs KBRASTU09 and KBRASTU10. That is not the crazy part. The crazy part is that they started using “Model” identifiers on their keyfobs, including “Model/ (blank)”, “Model A” or “Model/A”, and “Model/01A”. And all of these keyfobs look the same! Needless to say, it confuses their vehicle owners entirely when they try to shop for a replacement remote on the web.

Recently, a customer contacted us to ask if KBRASTU09 and KBRASTU10 remotes are interchangeable. We told him no, and that it was important to capture both the FCC ID and the model identifier from the remote. Plus, there are both 3-button and 4-button versions as well as Nissan-logo and Infiniti-logo keyfobs for most of these remotes. We suggested he search by the make, model and year of his vehicle.

As it turns out, he has a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. The majority of Pathfinders assembled in the 2001 model year use a KBRASTU10 remote with a blank model identifier. The OE part number is 28268-2W602. The Remotes Unlimited part number is 455-1455.

See 2001 Pathfinder remote with part number 28268-2W602 at this link.

We say “majority” above, because this part was used on Pathfinder only from November 2000 through July 2001. This covers most of the period 2001 model-year Pathfinders were assembled. However, early in the model year, before November 2000, there may have been some Pathfinders that used a different keyfob. The predecessor part is OE part number 28268-2W601 (later replaced by 28268-5W505), which is Remotes Unlimited part 720-1720.

See keyfob used on Pathfinder before November 2000 at this link.

We know this is very confusing. Thank you, Nissan . . . NOT!

Different Nissan models used different remotes in 2001. So we would definitely need to know the model of your vehicle to specify the correct keyfob. Also, Nissan used three systems on Pathfinder vehicles during the 2001 model year and the remotes for each are different. So, if you have a 2001 Pathfinder, we would need to know the full VIN (vehicle identification number) in order to be sure we specify the correct remote. I hope this helps.

So if I give you the VIN you can tell me the correct keyless entry remote for my Pathfinder? Can you also tell me the cost and whether this is something we can install ourselves? Thanks.

Linda, I apologize for the slow response. Order volumes are very high and we are short-staffed because of holiday vacations. Yes, if you contact our call center (281-820-0300, option 2) and give them your full (17-character) VIN, we can tell specify the part you need, give you pricing and tell you whether or not it will be user programmable. This all assumes your vehicle has factory keyless entry installed on it rather than an aftermarket or dealer-installed alarm system. (We can help you with those situations also, but the VIN is irrelevant in that case.)

All factory keyless entry systems used on Pathfinders through 2006 are user programmable. From 2007 on, the system is user-programmable if it uses a conventional keyed ignition. However, all vehicles with push-button start require dealership programming to add a new remote.

I hope this helps. Again, sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Hello, in order to make sure we are providing the correct remote link, what model vehicle is your 2001 Nissan?

I have a 2001 Pathfinder LE. Remote #KBRASTU10. It is awful. Is there
a better model I can get? Thanks

Unfortunately, the KBRASTU10 remotes were not well designed. There are three different parts (models). Only one of these has a replacement remote that is different and better made than the original KBRASTU10 part. Look on the back of your remote.

If your original part shows a Nissan part number ending in 2W602 and no model number, then it is our part 455-1455. This part is no longer made and we do not have any more in stock.

If your original part shows a part number ending in 2W601 or 5W505 and model /A on the back, it is our part 720-1720. We do have both new and used 720-1720 remotes in stock. If you want to try buying a used replacement part to see if it operates better than your current remote, you will need to call us (at 281-820-0300) because we do not sell the used part on our website.

If your original remote shows a part number ending in 7Z460 or model /01A on the back, it is our part 501-1501. That part can be replaced by a newer replacement remote, which is our part 503-1503.

Is 1999s model a reprogrammable system? I have tried using a remote I bought recently but without success.
Could you help me with this, how sure is it to work and what is the cost?

    Thanks!

Hi, I am trying to get a replacement remote for my Nissan Pathfinder 1999. Did buy one off the internet recently but am having no success reprograming it. I do have the old remote that stopped worked, an internal part broke off.
Is this car model reprogrammable? Is this something you can help with?

    Thanks,

1999 Pathfinders used two different factory keyless entry systems. The remotes for these systems are not interchangeable. Some Pathfinders used our remote 861-1861 with FCC ID KBRASTU09. The other used our transmitter 525-1525 with FCC ID KOBUTA3T. If you have an original remote that worked with the vehicle, you can choose the part that matches the FCC ID on your original remote. If not, I suggest you call us and provide your VIN so we can determine which part you need. You can reach tech support by contacting 281-820-0300 and choosing option 3. Both parts are shown in the links below:
      RUI part 861-1861
      RUI part 525-1525

Please note that we have B-grade remotes (previously owned) transmitters available for both of these key fobs at much lower prices than the new parts. They do not show on our website, so you will need to call us if you want to buy a B-grade remote.
